Make chemistry memorable: choose from fifty-nine collaborative activities that will make your general chemistry lecture, recitation, homework, or lab more relevant, interactive, and collaborative.

The ChemConnections activities—grown out of the popular ChemConnections modules—are each in the context of environmental and societal issues that are interesting to both faculty and students. These activities, influenced by chemistry education research, are written with attention to pedagogy and student learning styles. Faculty will be able to use a variety of activity styles including data analysis, labs, worksheets, and discovery.


A flexible format allows instructors to add collaborative activities when they want.

Activities can be used to supplement lecture, recitation, or lab so that instructors can ease into integrating collaborative learning in their course. The workbook is arranged by traditional chemistry textbook topics, but activities are also cross-listed by real-world themes. All of the activities are self-contained and designed to take between thirty and ninety minutes. Ten activities are for the lab.

Each activity is organized around an environmental or societal issue, which helps students learn chemistry content while enabling them to understand how chemistry relates to issues such as climate change, ozone depletion, recycling, greener fuels, and fats in foods.
